Strengthening Internal Communication Across a Global Team

Published in:  cApStAn updates

cApStAn colleagues came together in Brussels for a workshop on effective internal communication, reflecting on what already works well, what can be improved, and how to communicate better across teams, locations, and cultures.

How does a team of over 15 nationalities, working from different parts of the world, communicate effectively every day?

At cApStAn, good communication is not something we take for granted. It is built through appreciation for each other’s work, active listening, trust, and a shared sense of belonging. As our teams continue to collaborate across countries, languages, projects, and time zones, we also know that communication is something we need to keep practising and improving.

On 15 June, colleagues from different cApStAn locations came together in Brussels for a workshop on Effective Internal Communication, led by experienced trainers Masha Tarle and Nina Butić Ivanković.

The workshop gave us the opportunity to step back from our daily project work and reflect together on how we communicate as a team. Through exercises, discussions, and open exchanges, we looked at what already works well, where there is room for improvement, and how we can navigate communication more effectively in an increasingly digital working environment.

We were also very pleased to welcome Maria Meistad and Ingrid Meistad from Enovate, who joined us for the day. Their presence made the exchange even richer, especially as cApStAn and Enovate continue to work more closely together.

One of the key takeaways from the day was that effective internal communication is not only about tools, channels, or procedures. It is also about how we listen, how we ask questions, how we make space for different perspectives, and how we ensure that colleagues feel included and understood.

For a multilingual and multicultural team like cApStAn, these questions are especially important. Clear communication helps us work better together internally, but it also reflects the values we bring to our client work: attention to meaning, context, nuance, and collaboration.

The day was filled with practical exercises, shared reflections, and many moments of laughter. It was also a welcome opportunity to reconnect in person with colleagues we often work with remotely.

A warm thank you to Masha Tarle and Nina Butić Ivanković for guiding the workshop, and to Roberta Lizzi and Savita Gauchan for planning and organising this team-building event.

We look forward to carrying these reflections into our daily work and continuing to strengthen the way we communicate across teams, locations, and cultures.
