In the feasibility study for the Assessment of Higher Education Learning Outcomes (AHELO) or in TIMSS Advanced, for example, the level of knowledge that is being assessed is highly specialised: economics and engineering in AHELO, mathematics and physics in TIMSS Advanced. In such studies, when cApStAn is asked to assess the quality of the translation and its equivalence to the source, a dual verification process is set up: for each version, a linguist is paired up with a domain specialist. They are trained to interact, to document their findings together, and to agree on recommendations. Over the years, our network of freelance experts has grown considerably.
