cApStAn’s ongoing and oncoming translation verification projects in the field of education and literacy assessment:
TIMSS 2007 Main Study – IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement)
The data collection for the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study will take place in 2007: the achievement tests will be taken by fourth and eighth grade students; and contextual questionnaires will be completed by the students, their teachers and the heads of the schools the student attend. More than 60 education systems will be represented. cApStAn will verify the translations of 43 national versions.

TEDS-M 2008 - IEA
Teacher Education and Development Study - Mathematics is a comparative study of teacher education with a focus on the preparation of teachers of mathematics at the primary and lower secondary levels. The target population of this new study will consist of teacher education institutions, educators of future teachers and future teachers. cApStAn will be in charge of the verification of the national versions of all participating countries (14 to 16 national versions foreseen) before the Field Trial in 2007.

PISA 2009 – OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development)
The Programme for International Student Assessment is an international study organized in three-year cycles. cApStAn was commissioned by the PISA Consortium to verify the translations/adaptations of all non-English language versions in PISA 2000, PISA 2003 and PISA 2006. For the PISA 2009 cycle, cApStAn has become a member of the new PISA Consortium. cApStAn will be responsible for Linguistic Quality Control and equivalence checks and will also be in charge of organizing the Consortium’s expert meetings and National Project Manager meetings.

ICCS 2009 - IEA
The purpose of the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study is to investigate the ways in which young people are prepared to undertake their roles as citizens. It will report on student achievement on a test of conceptual understandings and competencies in civic and citizenship education.

LAMP – UNESCO Institute for Statistics
The main goal of the Literacy Assessment and Monitoring Programme is to profile the level and distribution of adult literacy and numeracy proficiency. A major challenge lies in ensuring that test questions reflect local socio-cultural and linguistic circumstances. cApStAn is responsible for the verification of the materials prepared by the countries taking part in the Pilot phase.
