PIRLS

cApStAn was first involved in verifying a selection of language versions of achievement tests and contextual questionnaires from IEA's Progress in International Reading Literacy Study in 2005. At the time, we mainly verified the equivalence and linguistic quality of versions in Eastern and Central European languages and from the Middle East. the reading passages and related questions were designed to assess reading skills in Grade 4 students, an age at which students are expected to have learnt to read well enough to be able to read to learn. cApStAn were trained to focus on changes in register, wording or phraseology that might change the level of reading difficulty for 9-year-old children.

Projects such as PIRLS gave cApStAn the opportunity to process files in scripts such as Arabic, Armenian, Farsi, Georgian or Hebrew and to find solutions to maintain diacritic accents or lanuage-specific punctuation even after conversion of files to different formats. 

For the PIRLS 2011 Survey cycle, cApStAn was commissioned to verify the adapted versions of all participating countries, both at Field Trial and at Main Study stage.
